Bill,
Depending on your comfort level with doing a little Android reflashing (you should be ok with spending some time investigating firmwares) I would suggest the Viewsonic GTablet. I've owned one for 6-9 months and love it. The price should be substantially less then Samsung, and the hardware is very similar to the Samsung 10" tablet. It also comes with HDMI out so you can plug into a TV or projector.
Here's link to ebay, i don't believe Viewsonic is selling them anymore but if you can find one for reasonable price they are very easy to work on, and almost impossible to completely brick:

The dongle on the Galaxy would allow me to do the projector and external
storage.
As to price, speed, screen, it's pretty equal.
