To add to this comment, my office here in Portland does software
development for a hedge fund administrator in New York. The
real-estate is so much cheaper here (even really nice offices with
great views) than in midtown Manhattan, that it makes sense to hire
people here, rather than in New York. And, as we're 3 hours behind New
York, we can provide production support during east coast afternoon
commute time, which saves the team in New York from having to do that.
