Actually, GWT is very similar to Swing, so it's a very easy transition for Swing developers.

GWT is a pretty unique framework, so not a lot of other AJAX web
toolkits would map directly to it. However, if the person has
experience with Java and also with other AJAX toolkits (Dojo, YUI,
ExtJS, etc) then they can probably pick up GWT pretty quickly.
