Position: Java Developer

Duration: 6 months

Type: Contract to Hire

Location: Portland, OR (Downtown)

 

Overview:

Under general supervision this role will contribute to software
development activities.  This role is expected to understand complex
systems and be able to contribute toward many aspects of the software
lifecycle including activities such as: requirements analysis, design,
construction, unit testing, and production support. This role will
participate in an agile software development process while practicing
such techniques as collective code ownership, continuous integration,
and test-driven development.

 

Design, create, debug, and modify complex code.  Create specifications.
Document work as software is created so that other engineers can
understand key decisions.  Work with QA, internal teams, clients, and
vendors to resolve problems.  Ensure quality and security considerations
on products created.  Perform code reviews.  Write developer unit and
regression tests.

 

Technical Environment:

*	Object Oriented Programming in Java (1.5), XML, SQL (experience
with MySQL or other relational DB), Unix (Solaris) 

 

Technical Skills:

Required:

*	Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, Minimum of 5
years of experience with Java, Minimum of 3 years of experience with
XML, Minimum of 3 years of experience with a relational database and
Java.

 

Preferred:

*	MySQL, Solaris Unix, MacOS, Groovy, High performance and high
availability transaction-based systems.

 

General Skill/Ability required:

*	Shell, Groovy, Python scripting, Code complex software from a
system design.  Skilled at understanding complex systems.  Knowledgeable
of multiple operating systems and programming languages. Able to gather
requirements or work based on requirements documents created by others.

 

Work Environment:

*	They are looking for candidates that take ownership of their
work and want to be a part of a new team.  Must be able to solve complex
problems.  Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

 

Other Skills

*	Ability to handle multiple concurrent activities and have a
flexible, positive attitude.  High level of professionalism and
organization.  Excellent analytical skills.  Team oriented with strong
collaboration skills applied across functional team boundaries.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as
interpersonal skills.  Attention to detail.  Possess presentation skills
and the ability to positively influence customers.  Strong technical
writing ability.  Problem solving and decision making skills.  Ability
to properly facilitate meetings.  Ability to work with minimal
supervision.  Ability to delegate tasks to junior software engineers.
Demonstrated understanding of quality and testing methodology.
