J2EE is 1.4 and below... Java EE is 5 and above. Java EE means EJB 3, 
which solves the complexity problems that existed in J2EE and, in fact, 
is very much like hibernate. Most response I've heard prefer it over 
hibernate for ease of use and features.... ymmv.

I agree w/ Joe -- Java EE has many enterprise features which you have at 
your disposal, use what helps.
