[PJUG Javamail] Netbeans, "Please wait, classpath scanning..."

I just downloaded Netbeans 6.0, and I'm running into a roadblock.

When I try to compile and run, either normally or debug, I get the a
dialogbox which says
"Please wait, classpath scanning in progress...". My only option is
"Cancel Run Project".

I'm guessing Netbeans is doing some verification/scan of my classpath,
and then (?) trying to
contact some server to relay my current Java environment. But since I'm
in a rather restrictive
environment, Netbeans cannot contact on a specific port. But that's just
a guess.

Anyone have a remedy?

thanks,
