[PJUG Javamail] Netbeans Performance

I would suggest you check your memory utilization.

I run NB6 on my Kubuntu laptop with 1.5Gig and with
E-mail & Firefox running it is pretty much maxed out.
I also have a large display so the X server
eats a lot of memory also, currently 454m RES. 
NB is currently about 270m RES, Firefox 250m.
It adds up fast.

I've taken to running my GlassFish app server on a
system in the basement and defining it as
a remote server to deploy to when running web
apps in an effort to distribute my load.

Try shutting down everything else but NB and see
if that improves your performance.
