[PJUG Javamail] Why Glassfish?

Hi,

Zach asks, "Why switch from JBoss to Glassfish?"

Anyone remember the text editor wars (emacs vs vi) and word processor
wars (WordPerfect vs Word)? Seems like we nearly have an app server war
of the same ilk. For the most part app servers all do the job well.
Some excel in some areas and some in others. In the end it might boil
down to personal taste as much as specific need. That said, I'll list
my reasons and then you can tear at them like jackals smelling blood.
:-)

0. When both candidates are free, price is no object.

1. It's standards-compliant. Sort of by definition. I want the
applications we have to remain as close to the actual java standard as
possible. It's not that other app servers are not standards compliant
but that with GF I can emotionally relax about whether some little item
is being superseded by work done by another community.

2. It's incredibly well supported. The OS community for GF and NB is
astounding. I don't see that same support for JB any more.

3. It's well coupled with NetBeans. I like NetBeans. It's as good as
intelliJ IDEA in most respects, better in some, and worse in only a few
areas -- based on the way I use an IDE. (<-- Note the flame-retardant
caveat.) :-)

4. I understand the setup, configuration, and admin of GF better than
JB, and time is a real pressure.

5. I am an army of one, and while we have plans to start training
people, I can train them to think exactly the way I do. :-)
